Waikato University Hockey Club AGM for the 2013 season

Dec
05

The AGM for 2012 will be held Monday 17 December in the Guru Lounge (WSU Building, Waikato University) at 7:30pm. It is important for as many people to come along as possible and get involved with how the club is run. The main feature of the evening will be the election of the executive positions - if you would like to nominate someone for a position or stand for one yourself, please get in touch. The major roles are:

  • President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Equipment Officer
  • Mens Club Captain
  • Womens Club Captain

There is also plenty of room for people who want to be involved and help out when they can, without being in an executive position. We're especially keen to have extra people onboard who want to help out with club social events throughout the season. Many hands make light work, and the more people involved then the easier it is for everyone and the smoother the club runs!

WHA Finals Day and Prizegiving 2012

Aug
30

Hey guys just a heads up about upcoming events. The local round Finals Day will be on Saturday 22nd of September this year. The format for this day is similar to our recent clubs day: lower grades have their finals starting in the morning, culminating with the Premier Grade finals in the late afternoon. Varsity normally has a large number of teams playing in finals and this year should be no different, so mark this day in your diary and even if you aren't playing come down and watch some epic hockey.

Our final event for the year is Prizegiving, which is one week after Finals Day on the 29th and our venue this year is CBD Corner Pub. This is always a great night and perhaps the biggest social event of the year, where we give out club trophys as well as team-based Most Valuable and Most Improved Player awards, and celebrate the season in general.

More details to come on both of these events. So watch this space

Special General Meeting

Aug
15

A Special General Meeting for the Waikato University Hockey Club is due to be held on Wednesday 29 August 2012, 8:30pm at St Pauls Collegiate. The purpose of this meeting is to consider changing the club financial year from 1 January - 31 December to be 1 November - 31 October to bring the end date better in line with the end of the hockey season. Doing so would mean the accounts can be audited earlier, the AGM can be held earlier and we can get a head start on season planning in the new year.

Agenda:

1. Presentation by Club President James Hancox on the proposed changes to the financial year dates and their implications for the Club.

2. Discussion on the costs and benefits of changing the financial year dates.

3. Voting on whether the Club should modify the constitution to change the financial year to end 31 October.

It is important that we get as many people along to this meeting as possible, as it affects the future direction of the Club as a whole and we want your input! Any questions please contact James Hancox.

Varstonians Day 2012

Aug
14

Varsity hockey proudly presents: Varstonians Day 2012!

This year whave combined the Varsity Hockey club day, Ben Gilby-Todd Memorial Match and Varstonians Day event into one massive occasion on the 25th of August.

Varstonians Day is an important event on our calendar where former players return to celebrate and reminisce with the players of today.Varsity Hockey teams will be playing all day from 1pm onwards, culminating with the Ben Gilby-Todd Memorial game between our very own Premier Men and Suburbs.

As it's our Club Day, Varsity Hockey receives a percentage of all sales at the canteen, so this is a great fundraising opportunity for the club and will help us to keep offering the lowest subs in the region and putting on epic events like the Opshop Ball. So invite your family and friends down to support both your own team and the other teams in the Varsity Hockey family.

We will have a marquee complete with a bbq and music going all day, so stick around after your game or come down beforehand, enjoy the festivities and cheer on your clubmates.

Game times 25th of August:

1.15pm T1 Sachin Reserve Women vs Suburbs
1.45pm T2 Admor Men vs Suburbs
2.45pm T1 Admor Women vs Creative Plastics
3.15pm T2 University New World vs Visique Rose Uni
4.15pm T1 CBD Reserve Men vs Fraser Tech
